A group of influential figures from the executive management team of The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met), one of the largest and most prestigious museums in the world, visited Yıldız Holding’s Çamlıca campus to personally inspect the works in the Yıldız Holding art collection.
During the meeting hosted by pladis Chairman Murat Ülker, Yıldız Holding Chairman Ali Ülker and pladis CEO Salman Amin also accompanied the representatives from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The Met team, who examined the extensive art collection with great appreciation, had the opportunity to experience not only Yıldız Holding’s Islamic and contemporary works collection, which brings together rare pieces, but also a selection of archaeological artifacts that take visitors on a journey through human history.
Murat Ülker: “We had the joy of coming together through the universal language of art and sharing our cultural heritage.”
Murat Ülker, who said they had invited the executive team to Yıldız Holding’s Çamlıca campus during his recent visit to the museum, stated: “Last month, I visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art and participated in a GOYA (Gez Oturma Yerinde Artık) event, and I invited the team to visit our collection at the Holding. Together with The Met team, who visited our Çamlıca campus, we had the opportunity to tour the ‘Speaking Writings’ section featuring calligraphic works from the Yıldız Holding Art Collection, as well as our exhibitions of contemporary and archaeological works. Through this valuable visit, we experienced the joy of coming together through the universal language of art and sharing our cultural heritage. As we examined the rare works of distinguished artists in our collection alongside The Met Museum team, we witnessed the journey of art from past to present. The elegance of traditional calligraphy and the innovative spirit of contemporary art came together in this special meeting.
Later, we showcased the beauties of our beloved Istanbul with a boat tour along the Bosphorus. As I always say, we once again saw the unifying power of art, which teaches us to view things from different perspectives and has a healing effect. I would like to thank The Met Museum team for their kind visit and pleasant conversation, and we were delighted to host them.”
Following this, the MET team was taken on a boat tour of the Bosphorus, which started in Çengelköy and ended in Emirgan. Guests were served döner, pistachio kebab, olive oil dishes, and homemade baklava on the boat.
THE HUGE ART COLLECTION CAN BE VISITED BY APPOINTMENT
The Yıldız Holding Art Collection consists of nearly 2,000 works. Approximately 500 of these are traditional works, and 800 are contemporary pieces.
A very valuable selection of archaeological artifacts, consisting of 674 different historical items registered with the Istanbul Archaeological Museums Directorate, was added to the Yıldız Holding Art Collection last year. This collection, which bears traces of Anatolian civilizations, includes artifacts dating from 3500 BC to the present, spanning the Bronze-Iron Age, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, and up to the final century of the Ottoman Empire.
Yıldız Holding’s art collection is open to the public and can be toured by appointment throughout the year in the permanent exhibition halls at Yıldız Holding’s Çamlıca campus, free of charge.
